Rob Sternthal President, Reznick Capital Markets Securities, LLC |
Rob Sternthal is head of CohnReznick's capital markets practice, and in that role, has been involved in numerous renewable energy transactions in the Wind, Solar and Biomass sectors. Rob focuses his practice on raising, structuring and negotiating tax equity alongside CohnReznick's consulting practice, as well as placing debt and equity or creating joint equity ventures for CohnReznick's renewable energy developer client base that totals more than 75 developers.
Rob's recent assignments have included the acquisition and financing of over 150 MWs of wind farms, representation of a top-five tax equity investor in the financing of a 200 MW wind farm, various M&A assignments representing sellers of portfolios of solar projects, and the tax equity financing for a number of solar developers with portfolios of assets ranging from 9 – 20 MWs. In addition, Rob's extensive expertise in the Caribbean has contributed to the opening of the Puerto Rico renewable energy market to US investors and his clients will be among the first ones to successfully develop, finance and sell solar and wind projects on the island.
Previous to CohnReznick, Rob focused on establishing new businesses for Credit Suisse, leading to the formation of Credit Suisse's Tax Credit Syndication business in 2006. In that endeavor, Rob led Credit Suisse's acquisition of Guilford Capital Corporation in May 2006 that was followed by a successful tax-credit syndication of $40mm in PTCs for a client's biomass plants in Maine. Rob worked with Credit Suisse's Project Finance and Renewable Energy Group and their clients to help them navigate the tax equity market and project financing structures.
Immediately prior to joining RCMS in September 2008, Rob was a Director in Credit Suisse's Asia Real Estate Finance & Securitization Group. He spent his last year at CS based in Tokyo. In Tokyo, Rob was responsible for structured finance and distribution of AREFS' CMBS and commercial real estate loans through securitization, syndication and sub-participation and also worked as an Originator covering major US private equity clients such as Blackstone and The Carlyle Group as well as a number of other firms. From May 2001 to May 2004, Rob worked in Credit Suisse's Asset-Backed Securitization (ABS) Group leading several groundbreaking securitizations involving Mexican mortgages, insurance commission receivables and drug royalties.
Prior to joining CS in May 2001, Rob was an attorney at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. At Milbank, Rob was the lead associate on more than 25 domestic and international corporate finance transactions, including public and private placements ranging from $25 million to $1 billion, with specialization in aircraft and project finance transactions. From May 1998 to May 2001, Rob was a Staff Attorney in the New York office of the United States' Securities & Exchange Commission.
Rob received his B.A. in Economics from Emory University in 1992 and his J.D., cum laude, from Temple University in 1995. In 1994, Rob received a Nambu scholarship to study law in Japan. He maintains conversational fluency in Japanese.
