Bates Marshall

Bates Marshall Vice President, Medium Power Solutions SMA America, LLC

Bates Marshall is vice president of the Medium Power Solutions group for SMA America, the U.S.-based subsidiary of solar inverter leader SMA Solar Technology AG, headquartered in Germany.  

In his current role, Marshall is responsible for SMA's North American residential and commercial inverter market strategy and sales activities. This includes leading both channel sales and strategic partnerships for the residential and commerical markets.

He also leads the company's North American efforts in market analysis, identifying business trends and opportunities.

Marshall joined SMA America in 2010 and succesfully developed partnerships that significantly grew the company's business and contributed to the most explosive growth period in the company's histrory.  

Marshall brings a global perspective to his work at SMA America, having worked extensively with leading PV manufacturers in Asia and Europe in all aspects of the solar value chain including materials, OEM equipment, and solar cell and module manufacturing. Prior to joining SMA, he led all commercial activities at Montreal-based Sixtron Advanced Materials, where he served as executive vice president of sales and marketing for the solar cells materials supplier. Marshall was responsible for all aspects of market development and customer acquisition processes, building a global team to support the launch of Sixtron's novel cell manufacturing process.

Marshall also worked as global industry sales manager for the solar and semiconductor industries for Rockwell Automation, a leading global provider of industrial automation control and information systems. Marshall led solution development and sales management functions, provided leadership in defining strategies for pursuing emerging high-tech market spaces, and worked to align the company's product portfolio with customer needs.

Marshall received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
